From Requirement to Launch: A Restaurant Chain Ordering Mini Program Delivered in 30 Days

The client is a restaurant chain brand in Jinan with 12 stores. They were using a third-party platform mini program, paying nearly 200,000 RMB in commissions annually. The platform also did not support the membership top-up feature they wanted. They came to us for their own ordering mini program.

Project Background

  • Industry: Restaurant chain (Chinese fast food)
  • Stores: 12
  • Core needs: Dine-in QR ordering, delivery, membership top-up, coupons, multi-store management
  • Delivery requirement: Launch within 35 days

Week 1: Requirement Research and Prototype Design

We did not start coding immediately. Instead, we spent 3 days visiting client stores — observing how servers take orders, how customers order, and the kitchen workflow during peak hours.

This step revealed a key issue: in the original process, dine-in and delivery shared one kitchen printer, causing missed orders during rush hours. We designed separate printing channels for dine-in and delivery, solving the missed order problem at its root.

Days 4-7: Completed prototype design, confirmed interaction flows page by page with the client, and finalized after two revisions.

Weeks 2-3: Development and Integration

Tech stack: WeChat Mini Program frontend + Laravel admin system + WeChat Pay API.

Development order: core ordering flow first (menu - order - pay - print), then membership and coupons, finally multi-store management and data dashboard.

Day 14: Internal testing began, finding and fixing payment callback timeouts, shopping cart quantity overflow, and store switching state sync issues.

Week 4: Pilot Launch and Full Deployment

Day 22: Selected 2 stores for pilot, running in real environment for 3 days. Two issues found: servers struggled with the sold-out toggle UI (we simplified it), and Bluetooth printer connections occasionally dropped (we added auto-reconnect).

Day 25: Fixes completed, began deploying to all 12 stores.

Day 28: All stores live — 7 days ahead of the 35-day requirement.

Post-Launch Results

  • No more platform commissions — saving ~200,000 RMB/year
  • Membership top-up: 80,000+ RMB in the first month
  • Peak-hour ordering efficiency improved ~40%, table turnover rate increased
  • Client subsequently added queue management and delivery rider management

Deliverables

  • WeChat Mini Program (dine-in + delivery)
  • Store management backend (multi-store, menu, orders, members, coupons, dashboard)
  • Kitchen printer system integration
  • Full source code and deployment docs
  • 3-month free maintenance period

Final Thoughts

This project was delivered in 30 days not because of rushing, but because requirement research was thorough — anticipating problems early means no rework later. If you have similar needs, contact us for a chat.
